The Eight Arch Bridge on the  Stackpole Estate

History

The site originally formed part of the Stackpole Estate which was owned by the Cawdor family

The land was sold  in 1964 to Govan Davies & sons Ltd. At the time it was used as a caravan site

A number of planning applications in relation to a “Holiday Chalet Site” were submitted from 1969 initially for outline planning ref PR/830/6.

Permission was subsequently granted for 40 chalets in 1969 , then an additional 70 in 1972, 150 in 1973 and an additional 51 in 1976

The chalets (no. 17-304)  were then built in phases and sold with 999 year leases effective from 1st January 1970

If any members have any old photos of the site especially before or during its construction it would be interesting to add them here then please
